Mom’s Butter Cookies

From: Vinca Ference

A very special family recipe passed down from my Slovak great-grandmother. Another favorite at Christmas. The dough itself has such a delicious flavor. Admittedly, I still can't figure out if I like the raw dough or the baked cookie better (watch out salmonella).

½ pound unsalted butter
4 egg yolks
2 cups confectioners’ sugar
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon vanilla

Preheat oven to 350°.

Blend butter & egg yolks. Add sugar, then flour, then vanilla. Chill for at least 1 hour in the refrigerator.

Roll out dough fairly thick using a floured rolling pin onto a floured board. Cut out shapes using medium-sized cookie cutters.

Bake 6-8 minutes or until edges are light brown.

(Tip: Always use butter)
