Macaroni & Beef

This was another favorite dish made by my grandmother. A good, hearty, one-dish meal in the wintertime.

1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey)
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 small onion, diced
3 cups canned tomatoes, undrained
¼ cup ketchup
½ cup water
1 package (8 oz.) shell macaroni, cooked and drained
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 cup grated cheddar cheese

Brown beef (or turkey) in butter. Add onion, tomatoes, ketchup and water. Simmer 5 minutes. Add in cooked macaroni shells & seasonings; mix well. Gently stir in cheese. Simmer 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serves 8.
